SmartArt
Studies have shown how the achievement of arts programs is a powerful tool to engage teens. The arts open the door to self-reflection and self-expression. Art provides the literal means for one of the most important tasks our teens face: To pose and wrestle with questions about the direction of their lives.
House of Hope’s “SmartArt” program is an in-class arts and life-skills program designed to help middle and high school teens expand their artistic skills while encouraging them to express themselves. “SmartArt” helps transform the lives of teens through creative expression and artistic skills. Weekly classes are held at House of Hope Northeast Indiana, 417 South Main Street in Bluffton.
We offer weekly classes for teens in conjunction with our counseling program. Local artists, Bruce Winters and Juanita Boyd, teach and oversee the program with their main artistic media being oil painting and watercolors. The format they provide teaches self-worth through accomplishments and encourages the habit of starting and finishing a project by allowing students to create an art piece at each session.
