Counseling

Troubled teenagers are usually unable to respond properly to authority figures and cannot relate constructively to peers. To deal with these problems, House of Hope provides a loving, stable family environment in which residents are expected to accept responsibility, submit to authority and relate effectively to peers and adults. This is accomplished through intensive group, family and individual counseling, and strong spiritual guidance designed to heal fractured family relationships. We are currently providing residential counseling for teenage boys, ages 12 -17 in the HOH program as well as non-residential family counseling for families with teens and pre-teens, ages 10 -20.

WHAT THE HOUSE OF HOPE HAS DONE FOR ME….

Before coming to House of Hope NEI, there was lots of arguing and dishonesty going on in my life.  I was to the point where I was ready to just give up on life completely.  My mom and I had gotten to the point to where we were barely communicating with each other.  I was to the point were I could barely stand to look at myself in the mirror every morning.  I was just fed up with life and with all of the people in my life.

I can remember waking up angry just because I could.  If I did not like something or someone then I felt that I could use that as a way to keep people away from me.  I had come to the point of feeling that if I wanted to be angry then I could be and I didn’t have to explain it if I didn’t want to.  I had pushed my mom to the point were if she had the money, then she could send me to a military school.

My mom, aunt, uncle and many other people in my family decided that I needed to go see a counselor.  When I first found out that my family had decided to sign me up for counseling, I just felt as though they were looking for ways as to make me hate them.  But within the first five sessions, I found that there were a lot of people around me that cared about me and that were willing to do whatever was necessary to show me a better life.  Within every session, I realized that there were many different ways that I could help prevent the way that I was feeling.

I know with everything in me, I can say that House of Hope NEI is the place that changed me.  After House of Hope many of my friends and family members could see a change in me.  They would tell me that I was much more peaceful and much, much more sensitive to someone else’s feelings.

Now I can honestly say that if you are a person struggling with anger or any other problems, then I strongly suggest that you visit House of Hope NEI.  There are men and women you can go to and talk to when you cannot talk to anyone else.  Now yes that means that you have to be willing to open your heart and mind to express and communicate to them the problem in your life but in the long run it will be worth it.

All I can say is thank you to House of Hope NEI for everything and say that they will always have a special place in my heart.
